☀️ Berlin FFA Member Attends Next Gen Conference in Orlando The National FFA Organization, the leading student leadership organization in the U.S. with over one million members, recently held its first Next Gen Conference of the year in Orlando, Florida, from March 4-8. Blake Mertens, a junior from Berlin High School, attended this event thanks to the support of the Berlin FFA Alumni! Read More 👇 Next Gen Conferences help FFA members explore career opportunities in agriculture. This year's event gathered 75 high school students to learn about careers in plant science through sessions, discussions, and farm tours. These conferences prepare students for over 350 agricultural careers by equipping them with essential knowledge and skills. 🍊 Blake shared, "My favorite experience was the Showcase of Citrus farm tour. We learned how weather impacts agriculture and how communities adapt. They replanted citrus trees after a frost destroyed much of their crop and found creative ways to attract visitors." The selected students participated from a competitive applicant pool, sharing details about their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE), which connects classroom concepts to real-world applications. The attendees' SAEs included landscape installation, greenhouse management, and more, with 12 students representing Wisconsin. 🌾 Next Generation Conferences occur three times a year, cultivating future leaders in agriculture. They provide essential educational experiences for students' success post-graduation. Blake plans to apply lessons learned to his family's farm, emphasizing the importance of adapting to current trends to maintain the family legacy. We extend our gratitude to the Berlin FFA Alumni for supporting Blake in this opportunity. Berlin High School proudly recognizes its FFA students and their future contributions to agriculture. 💙💛

🧪 Science in action! Our BHS science courses had the incredible opportunity to learn from the Wisconsin Army National Guard in our Science Foundations & Chemistry classes. Students explored the chemistry behind MREs (Meals Ready-to-Eat) and discovered the chemistry behind flameless food heating—essential for soldiers in the field. 🇺🇸 A heartfelt thank you to the WI National Guard for bringing real-world applications of chemistry and science into our classrooms!
